Village Studio Terms & Agreement

(Applies to all Classes, Events, and Workshops)

By registering for a class, workshop, or event at Village Studio, you agree to the following terms and policies.

General Information

  • Basic studio tools are provided and remain the property of the studio. Report any damages immediately.

  • Classes include 3 lbs of clay for demonstrations. Students must purchase clay for remaining classes and practice.

  • Glaze is included with classes. Workshops include glaze, tools, and firings (additional glaze may be purchased).

  • Firings are a separate fee for all classes.

  • Classes cover basic pottery skills (centering, pulling, shaping, handles, bat removal). Advanced skills are taught in workshops only.

  • Classes run 1.5–2 hours; workshops run 2–3 hours (see class description for specifics).

  • Students may keep their demo clay from Week 1. Clay provided in the last week must be returned for studio practice.

Payments & Refunds

  • All classes and workshops must be paid in full at the time of booking.

  • Private group events require a 50% deposit at least 7 days before the event.

  • Classes, workshops, and private group events are non-refundable if canceled within 7 days of the scheduled time.

  • One-time Friday night events require at least 48 hours’ notice to reschedule.

  • Events and workshops: 48 hours’ notice is required to reschedule.

  • Students may attend another weekday class as a makeup session, but makeups must occur within the same month.

  • Customers who fail to attend without notice forfeit their fee. Same-day cancellations are not accepted.

  • No partial refunds are issued for mid-session or mid-term withdrawals.

Cancellations

  • Customer Cancellations:

    • Classes/workshops → must cancel at least 7 days in advance to reschedule.

    • Events → must cancel at least 48 hours in advance.

    • If rescheduling is not possible, a studio credit will be issued valid for 60 days.

  • Studio Cancellations:

    • If the studio cancels due to illness, low enrollment, or emergency, classes may be rescheduled, merged with another class, or led as a group practice with senior students.

  • Notifications are posted in our Facebook group and sent via email.

Studio Etiquette & Safety

  • Clean and return all tools to their assigned spots.

  • Canvases are labeled for light/dark clay. Misuse may result in replacement charges.

  • Students are responsible for cleaning their space, tools, and mopping if needed.

  • Minimum ages: Wheel = 12+, Handbuilding = 6+, Workshops = 16+.

  • Food and drinks are allowed; dispose of trash properly.

  • Students are responsible for replacing broken tools (except wire and trimming tools).

Firings & Finished Work

  • Firings occur as kiln volume allows (goal: 1 bisque + 1 glaze firing per week). We do not fire single pieces; all work must be bisque + glaze separately.

  • The studio does not run kilns longer than 3 hours if unnecessary.

  • Finished work is held for 14 days before being disposed of.

  • The studio is not responsible for cracks, glaze issues, or kiln accidents.

Rescheduling & Make-Ups

  • Students may make up missed classes by attending another class that week.

  • Customers may transfer their registration to another person for the full duration of a class/workshop/event.

Behavior & Disputes

  • Respectful, safe, and collaborative behavior is expected.

  • Disruptive behavior → verbal warning → removal from studio if repeated.

  • Pottery is a learning process; progression is not guaranteed. Refunds are not offered due to dissatisfaction with progress.

  • Instructor concerns must be addressed privately. The studio has 48 hours to respond.

  • Repeated conflict may result in the customer being asked not to return.

Photography & Media

  • Photos/videos are taken in classes and may be used for studio promotion. By booking, you consent to this use.

  • Students may take photos/videos of their own work and (with consent) of others.

Liability & Waiver

  • Participation is at your own risk.

  • Kilns are for staff/authorized users only.

  • Safety requirements: closed-toe shoes, tied-back hair, appropriate clothing.

  • The studio is not responsible for lost/stolen valuables or injuries.

Other Policies

  • Discounts: 10% discount available for seniors and military.

  • Gift Cards/Promo Codes: May be purchased and redeemed online for classes/workshops.

  • Memberships: Members agree to safety and cleaning rules. No refunds for missed time. Clay and non-included fees are the member’s responsibility.

  • Drop-ins: We do not allow drop-ins or same-day appointments for non-students. Open studio is available only to current students during scheduled times.
